Coffee is a lifesaver, a reason to wake up, and a great way to start your day. I mean, yes, it is just a drink, but these 3 coffee shops in Toronto have, at one point in time, made my day just a little bit better. Himalayan Java House, De Mello Palheta Coffee Roasters, and Fika Cafe are all amazing places to go for a great cup of coffee – and no matter what you order, you can’t go wrong at these cafes

1. Himalayan Java House  –  Location: 2552 Yonge Street

Drink of Choice: Cinnamon Latté with Almond Milk.IMG_4430

This coffee shop is one of my very favourites. Located just north of Yonge and Eglinton, this Nepalese café offers the most delicious coffee, tea and food. From lattés to smoothies, you can’t possibly order something you don’t enjoy. Not only is their coffee to-die-for, the service is equally amazing. As a frequent customer, I am now on a first name basis with the baristas and they know my order off by heart.  Not to mention they have beautiful and creative latté art designs. I’d definitely recommend Himalayan Java, affectionately known as “HimJav” to anyone who either wants a delicious coffee to go or a nice place to work while experiencing a hidden gem in Toronto.

2. De Mello Palheta  –  Location: 2489 Yonge St

Drink of Choice: Iced Chai LattéIMG_5096

De Mello Palheta is a uniquely decorated café filled to the ceiling with colourful art located at Yonge and Castlefield. They roast their own beans and produce amazing coffee because of it. De Mello offers a wide variety of teas and tea lattes, which are absolutely delicious. This cozy café provides lots of gluten and dairy free options for those with food sensitivities. If you’re in the mood for something to nibble on their fresh pastries, baked goods, frittatas and pizzas (which they make in house), are some of the best. De Mello is definitely on its way to becoming one of the trendiest coffee shops in Toronto with its infectious positive vibe, one-of-a-kind decorating style and absolutely scrumptious menu.

3. Fika Café  –  Location: 28 Kensington Ave

Drink of Choice: Fika Iced Coffee

“Fika”, a very appropriate name for a coffee shop, is a Swedish verb that means “to go out for coffee” or “coffee break”. The café, located in Kensington Market, offers a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere to sit and enjoy the local community and the company of others. The menu includes flavourful coffee and teas, which can be complimented with their freshly made sandwiches and sweets. It has a full menu for lunches and brunch, so there is always an occasion to visit Fika Café. This cafe has, by far, the best atmosphere in the city with the most original, colourful and functional use of space. Walking into Fika is like walking into every coffee shop you’ve ever been to combined into one. Eclectic looks pull together with something for everyone; including comfortable working spaces, a room with a large table opposite a wall covered in book pages, followed by a backyard patio with seats and a hammock. Fika Café is a beautiful space to enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a coffee and a snack no matter what – everything about this place makes you want to come back again and again.
