Sweet and tart, lemonade is one of the most refreshing drinks. It’s a summer staple and once you’ve had a glass of it on a sweltering hot day, you understand why everyone craves this delicious drink during the summer.
A lot of different brands make bottled lemonade, and it’s always pleasantly good, but I’ve always wanted to make it on my own at home. Having food and drink prepared for us by manufacturers all the time makes it seem like everything requires a lot of work and prep. But making lemonade at home is quick and easy, plus the recipe is so simple that it only takes three ingredients.
If you’re feeling fancy, try adding different fruit to your lemonade. Or spike it with vodka or gin for a more “adult-friendly” version. Just try not to drink it all in one sitting.
- 1 ¾ cups white sugar
- 1 ½ cups lemon juice
- 8 cups water
- Combine the sugar and one cup of water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and let simmer, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved. Cool the simple syrup to room temperature. Cover and refrigerate until chilled.
- Juice fresh lemons until you reach 1 ½ cups of lemon juice. Remove the seeds, but leave the pulp.
- In a large pitcher, combine the lemon juice, sugar mixture, and the remaining 7 cups of water. Chill until ready to serve or add ice cubes and serve immediately.
