Taco night is always the best night. It’s easy, it’s fun, it’s tasty – it’s like a little arts and crafts project that satisfies your hunger. Up until recently, I would naturally get the Old El Paso taco kit to get the party started, which really just combines taco shells, taco seasoning for the meat, and an enigmatic sauce of some sort in one box. But why spend extra money on that when you don’t really need it? You can just buy the shells on their own and use that salsa that you already have in the fridge (because we all keep salsa on hand). As for the taco seasoning, it’s easy to whip that up using the spices you already have in your cupboard. Not only do you get to create your own seasoning, but you can experiment and tailor to your specific preferences.
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/4 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
Mix these together and add to the meat as you would normally when you cook.
